Sometimes we are asked if our products are organic. The answer is no. We wouldn’t want them to be as this would be unsafe. If a product is truly organic, it would have a very limited shelf life and quickly grow mold (which is organic, but not an ideal ingredient for hair).

Sulphates are emulsifiers and foaming agents that attract oil and water and assist to help shampoos lather up and foam, allowing grime, product build up and dead skin cells to be easily washed away with water.

Sulphates have been used extensively and safely since the 1930s, found in many personal care products including shampoo, body wash, facial cleanser and toothpaste.

There are varying types of sulphates, with the “-eth” version (used by muk Haircare) being the mildest for skin and hair. The cleansers chosen by muk are plant derived. There is no scientific evidence to support rumours that sulphates are unsafe.

Silicones are ingredients derived from silica – sand. Some silicones have been questioned for their accumulative effect – on the hair and environment.

muk Haircare chooses only high performing, non-accumulative silicones like cyclopentasiloxane which is a colourless, odorless, water thin cosmetic ingredient that is also commonly found in medical implants. It doesn’t absorb into the skin, rather it evaporates quickly away from it. It is used in our products for the purpose of detangling, preventing breakage, reducing frizz and adding shine. They are not toxic and do not strip or damage hair. Silicones shield your strands from harmful elements by creating a protective layer around your hair shaft.
